SSIC You Only Live Once

It is time for this weeks Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge and our hostess  this week is the ever lovely MariLynn, who has chosen a scripture from Hebrews.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. (KJV)
Hebrews 11:1

Make a card that you doodle on - now is that a challenge or what!  It certainly was for me! I decided I would revamp a card I had started a long time ago - and  brought it back to life from the 'to throw out or not to throw out' pile!  LOL!

I added some Spellbinders cogs that I was sent in a RAK - I am loving this Die and it is high on my Wish List - I can think of so many ways I can use it.  The Cogs were cut out with the Spellbinders Grand Calibur - I love this machine and use it nearly every day!

I borrowed my DD2's Hannah Montana Glitter Pens and followed the swirls from the Divine Swirls Embossing Folder - I also added some gold touches to the clock face - I am hoping these count as doodling - what do you think!?

This card is for the following challenges:
Challenge Up Your Life - Circles
2 Sisters - For a Guy
Creations by Gill M - Use Circle Shapes
Little Claire's - Cards for Men
Paper Creator's Crafts - For the Men
Bloggers Challenge - Masculine Card or Project
Fashionista Friday - For Men
Glitter Geeks - Male/ Father's Day
Totally Papercraft - Dies Cuts and Punches
Delightful Challenges - Anything Goes
Just for Fun - Doodle
Paper Creations Ink - Doodle

You can read MariLynns inspiring devotional at the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Blog.
Make sure you stop by the Design Team Blogs and see that gorgeous 'works of the heart' they have created for you!!

LOC I Love You Layout

It feels like forever since I have done any scrapbooking and I cannot blame lack of photos as I got a whole lot printed a while ago - this layout is one that I have created using the fabulous DP from Hot Off the Press in the Color Me range.

I will be teaching a class at my LSS in a couple of weeks using this layout....there are a couple of fun techniques involved....

This fabulous chandelier was given to me by my friend Hannah (aka bubblefrog) as part of a BRAK - I have used Crackle Medium on it and added some bling - you know that chandeliers have got to have bling!

To balance the page I have created an eclectic scene, using chipboard, flowers, bling, brads, buttons and the wonderful border from the Spellbinders Floral Doily Accent, this has been cut using my Spellbinders Grand Calibur

Emboss Resist has been used on the DP - it is so quick and easy to get such a great look.

A close up of the effect of the Crackle Medium on the letters - I love how it looks!

The sentiment from Layers of Color The Love Chapter has been embossed using Versamark and SU Black Embossing Powder.

I am sure there are no surprises to see that there is a bit of sponging - one of my favourite techniques...I love the aged look it creates so quickly.

I am happy to be able to play along with the Inspiration Challenge at SCS - here is my inspiration

This layout is also for the following challenges:
Crafty Purple Frog - Favourite Things - Embossing, Distressing Ink
Bling It On - Embossing
Paper Creations Ink - Ribbon or Lace
Creative Card World - 3 or more Brads
Diva's by Design - Anything But a Card

SSIC Child's Play

It is great to see you for this week's Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge.  It is always a plus for my Sunday - I love the fact that it is a 'faith based' challenge and obviously by the number of you that are playing along each week - so do you!

This weeks challenge is brought to us by the 'every lovely' Miesje - who has chosen this scripture for us
"Amen I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God
like a child will not enter it."
Luke 18:17

Miesje has challenged us to make a card/project for a child.

I know, Magnolia's are not normally my style, but when it comes to making a card for a child - well - what can I say!?  I also gave a card making lesson to my MIL's friend and she had purchased this Magnolia and wanted a colouring and card making lesson.

I have coloured Tilda with SU Chalks and a Blender Pen

Adding some flowers and some leaves - thanks to Martha Stewart.

A handmade flower is perfect for the base of the easel card, along with some smaller flowers, lace and pearls.  All DP has been embossed with the SU Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder - a favourite of mine - it is not hard to see why is it!?
This card is for the following Challenges:
Anything Goes - Make Your Own Embellishment - Flower
Clear It Out - Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers
PartyTime Tuesday - Anything Goes + Handmade Flower
The Stamping Boutique - Handmade Flowers
Make It Monday - Anything Goes
Paper Playtime - Anything Goes
Stamps R Us - Spring
GingerLoft - DieCuts or Punches
Scrappy Frogs - Flowers and Lace
Allsorts - Blooming Blossoms
Crafty Calendar - April Showers Bring Forth May Flowers
Crafty Emma - Children
Creative Inspirations - Mothers Day/Mum
Our Creative Corner - Handmade Flower, Ribbon (lace) and Bling
By the Cute and Girl - Cute and Girly

This weeks scripture has a very clear message - keep it simple!  So often we analyse and look at theology,  trying to find deeper meaning to scripture and spiritual things, when God tells us in His Word that whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.

It would seem that in our search for the 'meaning of life' and deeper spiritual things, we lose the simplicity of the Love of God.  Jesus always kept it simple, yes there are deeper truths in the Word of God, treasures for us to discover, but the message of the Bible in its entirety is simple and we need to have childlike faith, keeping it simple and accepting it simply.

You can see Miesje's devotional on over at the Stampin Sisters in Christ Challenge.

Thank you for your comments and all of the support you give me - you make blogging such an amazing place to be!!  Your encouragement is such a blessing for me  - it makes my day! I am recovering well, my eye is great but it takes time to fine tune and adjust.  I am able to create (thankfully) but my computer time is till limited due to glare and of course my other eye is desperately in need of surgery - not long now and I will be back with better vision than EVA!!   Sadly, I have not been able to get to all of the cards you have been entering into the challenge - but I will be there shortly.  Thank you for your prayers and the lovely comments you have been leaving me - I  am so blessed by each of you!! God bless you!

LOC FAF Birdcage Butterflies

For Faith Art Friday at Layers of Color I wanted to share these encouraging words from the book of Psalms.

Bless the Lord
I will bless the LORD at all times:
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall make her boast in the LORD:
the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

O magnify the LORD with me,
and let us exalt his name together.
I sought the LORD, and he heard me,
and delivered me from all my fears.

They looked unto him, and were lightened:
and their faces were not ashamed.

This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him,
and saved him out of all his troubles
. Psalm 34:1-6

LOC Framed Bird Queen

I have created this card using the Layers of Color Bird Queen cling art stamp.  When I saw the colour combination from the CR84FN Colour Challenge

I knew I had to use the the leftovers that I have from the first card class that I taught at my local Craft Shop Scraps'n'Stuff- you can see those cards here

Easel cards are always fun to make and ALWAYS looks great!!  There are so many ways to decorate it!

I have used the Bird Queen cling art stamp from Layers of Color - it is such a fabulous stamp - I love the uniqueness of it!!  I have added the corners from the Vintage Corners from Cuttlebug - these are a favourite of mine and finish off cards so beautifully.

For the base I used the DP from Teresa Collins, cutting out one of the crowns with an Oval Punch and popping it up on foam tape.  The large and small flowers from the Nature Walk art stamp set have been cut out and chalked, they are also popped up on foam tape and had a large pearl added to the centre.

LOC FAF Beloved Cross

It is Friday and that means it is Faith Art Friday at Layers of Color - as you may well know, this is something that is close to my heart.

There are times when the inspiration that comes is brought about something I see, perhaps a song that I hear and it just stays with me and brings life to my Spirit.

This week I have been meditating on the freedom that is ours in Christ and nothing defines it so clearly as the following scriptures
Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.
John 8:36

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2Co 3:17

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2Co 3:18

I pray these words, the Word of God will speak life to your Spirit!!

LOC Faith Art Friday - Only the Best

This is not your typical card for Faith Art Friday  at Layers of Color but as I was thinking about what to create I was drawn to the story of the Woman with the Alabaster Jar in Luke 7.

And, behold, a woman who was a sinner in the city, knowing that He reclined in the Pharisee's house, taking an alabaster vial of ointment,
and standing at His feet, weeping behind Him, she began to wash His feet with tears. And she was wiping with the hairs of her head. And she ardently kissed His feet and was anointing them with the ointment. (v37-38)

What a beautiful picture this paints for us - this woman who was extremely poor and had much in her life to be ashamed of, was not inhibited by her either her lack of wealth or her lifestyle.  She, knowing who Jesus was, immediately reached for her best - the Alabaster Jar and the precious oil that it held and took it to Jesus.
It seems that at no time did she worry about the cost of the alabaster jar or the precious oil that it held, but was intent on bring her best before Jesus -  this response of hers, it challenges me and motivates me to being my very best, to reach for the alabaster jar that I have put away so it won't get broken,  to take it out of that secret place and bring it to Jesus - give Him my very best as a heart response

The reaction of those around was interesting and almost predictable - you can read the rest of the story here

But seeing, the Pharisee who invited Him spoke within himself, saying, This one, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what the woman who touches him is; for she is a sinner.
And answering, Jesus said to the man, Simon, I have a thing to say to you. And he said, Teacher, speak.
There were two debtors to a certain creditor: the one owed five hundred denarii and the other fifty.
But they not having a thing to pay, he freely forgave both. Then which of them do you say will love him most?
And answering, Simon said, I suppose the one to whom he freely forgave the most. And He said to him, You have judged rightly.
And turning to the woman, He said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give water for My feet, but she washed My feet with tears and wiped off with the hairs of her head.
You gave Me no kiss, but she from when I entered did not stop fervently kissing My feet.
You did not anoint My head with oil, but she anointed My feet with ointment.
For this reason I say to you, Her many sins are remitted, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, he loves little.
And He said to her, Your sins are forgiven.
And those reclining with Him began to say within themselves, Who is this who even forgives sins?
But He said to the woman, Your faith has saved you. Go in peace. (v 39-50)

What a beautiful account of the Love of God and  forgiveness of sin - my prayer is that we too, will have the kind of heart that brings Him our very best, whatever the cost, we may not own anything of great worth in the eyes of the world, there maybe no literal Alabaster Jar in our lives, but we do have hearts that can be brought to Him and laid at His feet, 'washing His feet with our tears' and hear Him say those beautiful life changing words  'Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.'

I created the teacups using the Her Majesty's Urns art stamp set.  I stamped off the urn in the middle of the bottom row on some patterned DP and then cut each one out alternating what side I left the handle on, also removing the base stand.  How well does that work - perfect!
