All Lit Up

I love chandeliers - whether they be on paper on hanging from the ceiling - they bring with them such ambiance and are so pretty!

I was delighted when this stamp came free on the Craft Stamper Publication.
I stamped it on some Pink Paislee DP and added a sentiment from the Layers of Color Happy Wishes art stamp set.

This is a very quick and easy card, finished off with Seam Binding and some pearls - you know I love my pearls

SSIC You Only Live Once

It is time for this weeks Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge and our hostess  this week is the ever lovely MariLynn, who has chosen a scripture from Hebrews.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen. (KJV)
Hebrews 11:1

Make a card that you doodle on - now is that a challenge or what!  It certainly was for me! I decided I would revamp a card I had started a long time ago - and  brought it back to life from the 'to throw out or not to throw out' pile!  LOL!

I added some Spellbinders cogs that I was sent in a RAK - I am loving this Die and it is high on my Wish List - I can think of so many ways I can use it.  The Cogs were cut out with the Spellbinders Grand Calibur - I love this machine and use it nearly every day!

I borrowed my DD2's Hannah Montana Glitter Pens and followed the swirls from the Divine Swirls Embossing Folder - I also added some gold touches to the clock face - I am hoping these count as doodling - what do you think!?

This card is for the following challenges:
Challenge Up Your Life - Circles
2 Sisters - For a Guy
Creations by Gill M - Use Circle Shapes
Little Claire's - Cards for Men
Paper Creator's Crafts - For the Men
Bloggers Challenge - Masculine Card or Project
Fashionista Friday - For Men
Glitter Geeks - Male/ Father's Day
Totally Papercraft - Dies Cuts and Punches
Delightful Challenges - Anything Goes
Just for Fun - Doodle
Paper Creations Ink - Doodle

You can read MariLynns inspiring devotional at the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Blog.
Make sure you stop by the Design Team Blogs and see that gorgeous 'works of the heart' they have created for you!!

TCM, Simply Delightful

I wanted to take this opportunity to show you a card I created prior to my recent eye surgery, using a stamp set illustrated by Nina Brackett for The Crafts Meow.

The set is called 'Simply Delightful' - and it certainly lives up to its name!  This set is fabulous for masculine cards as well as those girly ones we love to make.

I have embossed the doily and sentiment with Stampin' Up Gold Embossing Powder and sponged around the edges, the other colours on the doily have been added with my Blender Pens, I have not even added any medium as I am naughty and did not clean them the last time I used them - so there was enough colour for this project - that has to be good - right!?!? LOL!

Cutting them out using my Spellbinders Grand Calibur and the Standard Circle and Ribbon Tags Trio

I have tucked in some pleated paper, left over from the edges of and old hymnal, underneath the sentiment.  I have been holding onto the gorgeous textured DP for some time, it is from my dear friend Priscilla.  I love the softness of it against the striped, torn Stampin' Up DP.

This card is for the following challenges:
Stamp Something - Pretty Papers
Challenge Up Your Life - Circles
2 Sisters - For a Guy
Creations by Gill M - Use Circle Shapes
Little Claire's - Cards for Men
Paper Creator's Crafts - For the Men
Word Play Weekend Challenge - Blue
Bloggers Challenge - Masculine Card or Project
Fashionista Friday - For Men
Glitter Geeks - Male/ Father's Day
Just Add Ink - Add Colouring
Totally Papercraft - Dies Cuts and Punches
I am loving the images from The Craft's Meow and I have more to show you as I was very busy before my surgery - I will be back with more.

I will be back tonight (for me) with a Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge and would love to see you there!!  Thank you for looking and for your lovely comments - you always make my day.  I do appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment - thank you!  God bless you!

LOC I Love You Layout

It feels like forever since I have done any scrapbooking and I cannot blame lack of photos as I got a whole lot printed a while ago - this layout is one that I have created using the fabulous DP from Hot Off the Press in the Color Me range.

I will be teaching a class at my LSS in a couple of weeks using this layout....there are a couple of fun techniques involved....

This fabulous chandelier was given to me by my friend Hannah (aka bubblefrog) as part of a BRAK - I have used Crackle Medium on it and added some bling - you know that chandeliers have got to have bling!

To balance the page I have created an eclectic scene, using chipboard, flowers, bling, brads, buttons and the wonderful border from the Spellbinders Floral Doily Accent, this has been cut using my Spellbinders Grand Calibur

Emboss Resist has been used on the DP - it is so quick and easy to get such a great look.

A close up of the effect of the Crackle Medium on the letters - I love how it looks!

The sentiment from Layers of Color The Love Chapter has been embossed using Versamark and SU Black Embossing Powder.

I am sure there are no surprises to see that there is a bit of sponging - one of my favourite techniques...I love the aged look it creates so quickly.

I am happy to be able to play along with the Inspiration Challenge at SCS - here is my inspiration

This layout is also for the following challenges:
Crafty Purple Frog - Favourite Things - Embossing, Distressing Ink
Bling It On - Embossing
Paper Creations Ink - Ribbon or Lace
Creative Card World - 3 or more Brads
Diva's by Design - Anything But a Card
Simon Says Challenge - Bingo - Lace, Buttons, Sentiment

LOC FAF Beauty for Ashes

It is a few days since I have posted due to various things going on and Specialists appointments after my eye surgery - everything is coming along beautifully and it is so exciting to be able to see properly, better than I have in years.

The song 'Beauty for Ashes' has been running through my mind for days now and I knew it was my inspiration for Faith Art Friday at Layers of Color
'...to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness...'
Isaiah 61:3b
'To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven'
Ecc 3:1
'He hath made every thing beautiful in his time'
Ecc 3:11
'weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.'
Psalm 30:5
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever.
Psa 30:11-12
What a wonderful promise to us!  Life does not always bring us easy time, God has never promised us that we would have it easy, but He has told us that He will bring us through our circumstances, whatever they may be.  Will it be easy - probably not, but we will not be alone!  He will strengthen us, guide us and give us 'beauty for ashes' - may our hearts give thanks to Him forever
I have used the Layers of Color Vintage Roses and Old World Flourish art stamp sets, along with the Spellbinders Grand Calibur, Lacey Circles, Standard Circle Nestibilities

The DP comes in many designs and is already embossed, leaving us to 'do our thing!'

The minute I was handed the DP to play with I know I had to use the Emboss Resist technique - if you aren't familiar with this technique, you can see my tutorial here.

I have combined it with sentiments from the Layers of Color Sent With Love art stamp set and used the Spellbinders Grand Calibur along with the Fancy Tags and Classic Oval  Nestibilities.

SSIC LOC It's a Man Thing!

My post for this weeks Stampin' Sisters on Christ Challenge is prescheduled as I am recovering from eye surgery on Thursday.  This weeks challenge is brought to you by Lisa who has chosen the scripture from Ephesians

"Honor your father and mother"--this is the first commandment with a promise: {3} "so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth." {4} And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord
 (Eph 6:2-4 NRSV)

Lisa has challenged us to make a Father's Day card... or a card praising our Father in Heaven.

Now, you may have noticed that this is not a Father's Day card - but a birthday card...there is a reason for this - when creating for this challenge I thought it a masculine card, not specifically a Father's Day card - and my DD2 needed a birthday card for a friend who plays AFL - I must be honest and say I would not know one end of a football from another - so we resorted to Google (LOL)...and there began the motivation for the card!

I used my Spellbinders Grand Calibur and the Grand Ovals Nestie to cut the card shape and cut another oval in brown and then ran it through my Cuttlebug with a Tim Holtz embossing folder.
I have inked it and adhered it to the card base - at this point it looked more like an Easter Egg (LOL).  I added a faux lacing strip and a tag using the Layers of Color Happy Wishes art stamp set, cut out with the Spellbinders Labels 18- two gold brads and the card is finished!!  I am happy with this, as was my DD2 and her 'friend' loved it as well - so that has to be good!!
Fathers Day - we love to celebrate it BIG time here in Australia, but it is in September. Although the feminists say that families don't need Fathers, I would like to see a family start without one!!  LOL!  I grew up in a family where my Father was not a 'textbook' Father and came with his own challenges.
Though the years this has brought many emotions along, but after losing him unexpectedly 11 years ago in September, I am so grateful to God that as I took it all to Him, He was able to help us build a new relationship and I did not know at the time, but Father's Day 2000 was the last time I would speak with him and my last words were 'I love you Dad!'
I know that many of us have not had the best experiences with family, but I do know that God is there and will bring us through with healed hearts - experience has shown me this.  I t is not easy to honour someone who you feel has let you down constantly and not given you any reason to respect them.  This was something that challenged me as I grew as a Christian...I did not see why this should apply to me BUT God is His wisdom showed me that I did not have to respect the behaviour but I had to respect the position of Father - a daunting task but a truth that was liberating!
I am am grateful to God that He did indeed give me 'beauty for ashes' with this relationship...I was blessed to have my Dad walk me down the aisle at my Wedding, to be able to build a new relationship and leave the past behind.  Since my Dad died I have often reflected on the role of a Father and thank God that He was able to bring healing in my life and bring restoration in a relationship that had left such an ache in my heart!
I am also grateful that my children have a Father who adores them and would give anything for them and me....what a blessing!!
