Out of this World Dr Who Style

Hello friends - any Dr Who fans out there?  The first thing I thought of when I saw this Phone Box stamp by Stampin' Up! was Dr Who - I have a son who is an avid fan and keeps us updated on that is happening with the Dr.

I stamped the image onto glossy card stock using Imagine Memento Ink in Danube Blue and fussy cut/hand cut using scissors it out.

The background is embossed using the Spellbinders Seth Apter Em-bossing Fold'ers Lazer Beams 5 x 7 and the Platinum .  The embossed layer has been randomly sponged using Imagine Radiant Neon Inks and a sponge dauber.  The 'Tardis' has been popped up onto the centre of the embossed layer using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares.   Kindy Glitz/Liquid Glitter has been added to each lazer beam.

The embossed card front has been layered onto a pre-cut card base, with a strip of embossed navy card stock added along the right side - liquid glitter has been added to the lazer beams.  Stenciled dots have been randomly added and finishing off with a computer generated sentiment.

This card is for the following challenges:

Hello friends - I hope you have all had a good weekend - for those who haven't, remember some days are diamonds and some are stone!! Every morning brings with it a new day -thankfully!

My card today is bright and cheerful and very special to me as the stamps are designed by the amazing Kim Geiser - you can see Kim's work here.  For those of you who recognise her style, you will know that she does amazing artwork - some of which you will see in conjunction with Art is You Mixed Media Art Retreats,  she has her own style and it is fun, funky and fabulous!

I have coloured the image using Imagine Crafts 'featuring' Tsukineko Memento Markers and an Aqua Brush.

I have added touches of shimmer using Kindy Glitz and Imagine Crafts 'featuring' Tsukineko irRESISTibles in Shimmer to the blue circles to add dimension.  The sentiment has been created using stickers from Kaisercraft.  Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: E-Z Adhesive Runner and 3D Foam Squares have been used on this card

Today and Always

It has been a few days since I have posted - I have had a influx of magazine commissions (always exciting) and some special posts that will be happening next month - I love this time of the year for that - they may involve the word - giveaways - so keep watching this space!!

There is something to be said for simplicity...it is not always something that comes easy to me, but I am learning to appreciate it and love to challenge myself to have a try. I have to admit I have gone with the patterned paper from Websters Pages and was inspired by the adorable little butterfly on the lower right edge,  The card base has been cut using Spellbinders 5 x 7 Matting Basics A and the Platinum Die Cutting & Embossing Machine.

I have stamped and coloured two butterfly's from the Penny Black Inc. Social Butterfly set, added some shimmer and Want2Scrap bling to the body and leaves, along with a beautiful bling border across the top.  As always my card is held together by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L E-Z Adhesive Runner and 3D Foam Squares used for dimension under the wings - just the perfect amount of height.

A sentiment from SRM Stickers is the perfect finishing touch - not too little and not too much - don't you think!?

LOC Happy Birthday and Blogger Pay It Forward 2011

It is a run of birthday's in our house from February to April and I love making cards for my family - the one I find hardest is my eldest daughters as she is not a 'girly girl', but is feminine and it not that fussed on handmade (arghhhhh! LOL) So I always have to stretch myself when it comes to her card!!

I was inspired when I received a special package through the post and it was full of crafting delights - sheets of gorgeous GRUNGE BOARD being among them - so my dilemma was over!!  As you can tell, she was turning 15.

I sprayed the numbers with Tattered Angela Glimmer Mist in Sand - a couple of coats brought it up beautifully, and sponged the edges with Tim Holtz Distressing Inks in Faded Denim - the pattern in the grunge board came up beautifully.

The Layers of Color Regal Wings art stamp set worked beautifully with the gorgeous rose, also part of a RAK from my dear friend and MMSC DT Sistah Gunn.  The wings have been lightly coloured with SU Chalks and then had some 3D Kindy Glitz added for the shimmer and texture - I LOVE this stuff!

I have added the sentiment from the Happy Wishes art stamp set - I love how interchangeable these images are and the different fonts in the set - perfect for every occasion!.  Three large blue bling finish this off!  This card came together, or rather evolved so easily - you have to love that!!

I am linking this to the following challenges:
Crafty Cardmakers - Special Birthday
Make It Monday - Anything Goes
There's Magic in the Air - Vintage Card or Tag

Thrilling Thursday - Show Us What You Got

Before you go, I have to share this wonderful Event with you!!

The whole concept of paying it forward is one that I love - I have actually been the recipient of a 'Pay It Forward' that enabled me to do a 'mercy dash' home to New Zealand and be there at my beautiful Nana' s bed as she 'went home'  I am eternally grateful to the person who was also paying it forward - and was thrilled some time later to be able to do a similar thing for someone - so this has my full attention.

when I came across Abby's Blog Little Birdie Blessings . Abby had a post about a "Blogger Pay it Forward" and had my attention straight away - I just happen to LOVE that movie- it is one of the few I own - I am so moved each time I watch it and always cry at the same place each time!

Thank you Abby for the inspiration and for allowing me to be part of this wonderful event - How does it work - the first five people who comment on this blog post will receive a handmade gift from me. In return, you must FIRST write a blog post explaining "Pay it Forward 2011". Then... send out a handmade gift to the first 5 visitors who leave a comment on your post.

To quote Abby "Take your time.. you don't need to send them all today or tomorrow. This is such a sweet way to connect with friends or meet new ones, by sharing things we create with our hearts.  It's not the size of the gift that matters, but the spirit of paying it forward."

You can see more of my projects in my Layers of Color Gallery, while you are there make sure you check out the other Design Team galleries there is so much inspiration waiting to be discovered, we are thrilled that Layers of Color is a Spellbinders Preferred Stamp Company

You can also check out Layers of Color Art Stamps on our FACEBOOK GROUP  and  have a look at the Layers of Color Art Stamps FLICKR GROUP where you can upload your LOC artwork and be inspired by hundreds of fabulous LOC creations! You are going to LOVE it!!

Under the Weather

Last Friday was the Twisted Sister Challenge and yes, you guessed it - I am late!  Our lovely Twisted Sister Phyllis (aka Tater) has challenged us to make a card and have rain on it somewhere - not so easy Tater!!

I remembered I had this image from my friend Melinda (aka Melinda 80) who is affectionately known as the 'Queen of Magnolia's' by those who know her!!  Thanks Mel for these images, it has been ages since I coloured one but I have had so much fun doing it!

Now, I have to say that Tater is known for her dislike of PINK - so just for you my friend I have not used pink at all, a touch of red, but no pink - I am hoping this helps me with the being late factor!!

Tilda is coloured with SU Chalks and a Blender Pen, cut out and popped up on foam dots on some DP which has been distressed and layered onto navy CS.  The main DP is part of a RAK from another Twister Sister - Darla Ryan has been distressed and attached to white CS.  I have added some gorgeous green ribbon (also from Melinda) and some double stitched ribbon.

This photo shows you the dimension more clearly and also the paper piercing of the light argyle, which happened as I needed something to balance the image!  The cloud is also a Magnolia image and has had Kindy Glitz added as has the raindrops.  The sentiment is also popped up on a foam dot with light chalking.

So girls - I am sorry I am late - is this when I QUIETLY mention that I am behind with the last two weeks challenges - oops - hopefully I will catch up!!

Thank for visiting with me today, I hope you are enjoying time with friends and family while remembering what Easter is all about.   Thank you for your lovely comments - you know I love to see that you have been!!  God bless you!

LOC Rosey Tea

I have come across the loveliest challenge and if you haven't been over there, please check it out - it is called The Shabby Tea Room - it appeals to me on so many levels!!

This week the challenge is to use scraps and I have done just that - the white CS is from my scraps pile that just seems to grow bigger every day!

I have used the Layers of Color New Release art stamp set Vintage Roses - how could I resist, I also made this card in the shape of a teapot, which I just love - I will make a template and post it on my Blog - that way everyone who wants to can use it - it is late and I don't trust myself doing it now - the teapot may end up with no spout! LOL!

The tag is leftover from a Layout I have done and the jewel is from a broken necklace, the ribbon is left over from cards made months ago - this is great I can see nearly half of my desktop now - wahoo - mutli tasking!! LOL!

You can see this and more of my cards on my Layers of Color gallery.  Thank you for looking and for your lovely comments, you always make my day brighter - thank you!  Make sure you check back tomorrow for my first Challenge with Stampin' Sisters for Christ - I am excited!  God bless you!!

LOC Picture Perfect

What a day I have had - if there was something that could go wrong - it did!  But nothing that a bit of 'Craft Therapy' wouldn't fix - well, apart from the Vacuum Cleaner with the cord that is not attached properly anymore and the lamp with the matching non functional cord - followed closely by the PlayStation that 'accidentially' fell over and now has lost it's programming....and the list goes on - add to that three teenagers and all of hormones - .it can get pretty 'interesting'....but you don't want to hear my woes do you...so I will get on with showing you my card!

I have used the Layers of Color art stamp sets Backyard Birds, Beaded Frames and Nature Walk. The flourish from Nature Walk is such a great image and I just L-O-V-E to use it...this time it is stamped onto the DP in distressing Ink and coloured with chalks.

I have cut out the Beaded Frame and backed it with white CS and hughlighted the individual beads with Kindy Gliz.  this has the been popped up with foam tape.

The Backyard Bird has been cut out and coloured with chalks then popped up into the frame.  I did use Pearlised Chalks but could not capture the shimmer - you know how it goes, it the stampers demise! LOL!!  The sentiment is stamped onto the DP and then cut out ,distressed and layered onto white CS.

This was another really easy card to make and only took 20 minutes from beginning to end - do you find it can take longer to choose the imges than to actually make the card - or is that just me! LOL!

I am linking this card to the following challenges:
Pollycraft Monday - Things with Wings
ABC Challenge - N is for New - this is one of the Layers of Color New Release art stamp sets

Thank you for stopping by and all of the suppport you give me -  I am always happy to see you have been - imagine if we could catch up in person - I would love that!  Have a great weekend!  God bless you!

LOC Beautiful Baby

I took great pleasure in making this card as it is Baby Loss Awareness Week and there are so many people who have had their lives changed by such a terrible loss - our family included, and it is in celebtration of those little lives that I made this card....I cannot take credit for the layout, I was inspired by this weeks Featured Stamper on SCS the lovely Chris Olsen (aka Glowbug) and what a pleasure it is to look through her gallery!  I cased this card.

What better set to use than the Layers of Color Flower Child set, I stamped the image into a Labels 1 Nestibilitie and coloured it with chalks, adding Kindy Glitz for that shimmer.  The edges have been sponged around with Distressing Ink. The frame was stamped in black and them sponged with Walnut Stain Distressing Ink (my favourite colour for sponging) and the sentiment, from PTI, is stamped in the Distressing Ink.  I cut a slot in each end of the frame and threaded the ribbon through.

The hearts are also from the Layers of Color Flower Child set, they have been stamped, cut out, coloured with chalks and layered into the Labels 1 Nestie which has been popped up on Dimensionals, as a result I have popped up the right hand side of the hearts with HALF a dimensional, a fiddly job BUT well worth the effort - I really like the result!

All DP's have been sponged (yes - with distressing ink!)  the lower panel has a row of lace added underneath where Chris has the border punch (thanks to Maxine aka Kiwime for the lace) with the final touch of Nail Bling.

This card is also for the Die cut Dreams Challenge which is focusing on Baby Loss Awareness Week - thank you Susie for the reminder!!  It is also for the Stampin' Sister s in Christ Challenge where we to be inspired by the scripture Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you..." (NIV) and make a card with a Baby theme.

What a perfect scripture for this week...God knows about every little life, whether we get to hold them or not - I so look forward to the day I see our little 'Tyler Aaron' who never heard with his ears that we loved him but certainly knew in his heart!  I thank God for the knowledge that he has gone from being my child to HIS child!!  I am so grateful for the three beautiful children we have been blessed with and celebrate them...every life is precious!

Thank you for coming by today and for your beautiful comments....today my heart is with those who are going through so much sadness and loss, whether it be recent or  in past years and I do pray that your hearts will find peace!  God bless you!
