SSIC LOC Joy

Sunday comes quickly - for us it is the last Sunday of the school holidays - so you can imagine my teenagers are not wanting it to end!  LOL!

Of course Sunday means it is time for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge and this week it is brought to us by MariLynn.

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
Matthew 11: 28–30

Miesje's challenge is all about sharing: use 2 of everything you use. ie: 2 Dp - 2 flowers - 2 stamps - whatever you use must be doubled.

I have taken a liberty with this challenge (sori Miesje - LOL!)  I have created a card doing as the challenge says but have not used two of the same image but two images instead - I am hoping this is okay - I don't want to break the RULZ!  LOL!

I have use two DP's from Pink Paislee and have two loops on my bows and added too many pearls - LOL - you have to give me points for trying!  Oh and my lace is double edged - and I am sure that counts!!

The images are from the Layers of Color Christmas Verses and Royal Birds art stamp sets, the Nestibilitie is Spellbinders Lattice Frames and has been cut with the Grand Calibur - and just to do it right I ran it through twice! LOL!

This card is for the following challenges:
Crazy 4 Challenges - Create something for an up coming holiday
Little Claire's - Christmas
Marks Finest Papers - Seeing Double
Squiggles and Giggles - 1stW Christmas
Crafty Ann's - Inspired by a Christmas Song  (Joy to the World)
Fabulous Friday - A Fancy Trim
Floweret - Christmas
Crafty Ribbons - Ribbon and Lace
Forever Friends - must include an animal - Use Sentiment
Meljens Designs - Use a Ribbon
 Stampin' B's - Use a bird on a card
By the Cute & Girly Anything Goes

What a comforting scripture - burdens are cumbersome and can be overwhelming - it is easy to give up the BIG ones, those that are so obvious....why then it is we seem to hold onto the smaller ones, that seem to trouble us only a little at first?  The weight of them can slowly build until unknowingly we become trapped under the weight of it.  It is then we wonder what is wrong - why are feeling like we have the weight of the world on our shoulders!?

It is pointless to try and battle on, when Jesus clearly says we must FIRST come to Him and then take on HIS yoke - for it is easy and His burden light - it makes we wonder why it takes me so long to some to this place at times - thankfully it is a daily walk and His mercies are new every morning!!

DD Old Friends

I have a quick post today - amazing I know!!  I am working on NUMEROUS projects for up and coming events and it is time for me to move it up a notch or two

This card was one that was created for my Card Design Classes at my LSS using Darkroom Door Rubber Stamps Vintage Automobiles

I am on a mission - top try and use every stamp in a set to make my own DP - how many sets do we own where we have used only one or two stamps in it and the other ones remain unlinked and just plain SAD! LOL!

I have used the large card for the main image and randomly stamped sentiments and the little car images on it, using Scattered Straw and Walnut Stain Distressing Inks

and I love this sentiment - what a truth!!  LOL!  I have to add here that this was very hard for me to make, I am not used to one layer and wasn't too sure about it BUT the lovely ladies at both Classes loved it and are going to be making more along this line - so that has to be a good thing - right!?

This card is for the following challenges:
Southern Girls - Boys or Men in your Life
Pals Paper Arts - Photo Inspiration
Truly Scrumptious - distressing
Craft Your Passion - A Card for All Occasions
Crafty Cardmakers - Anything Goes
Creative Stamp Friends - Autumn Colors
Make it Monday - always Anything Goes
Woodware USA - Anything Goes (again)

Thank you for stopping by today - before you go I wanted to invite you to

It is Saturday here and a very laid back one for our family as we are recovering from 3 weeks of SICKNESS in the house - my poor teenagers have been sick for the whole of their school holidays, but thankfully today are able to enjoy a sunny day and do a few things - as I am sitting here my DD2 is playing her guitar and singing songs she has written - it is music to my ears in so many ways! God bless you!

LOC Spotlight Designer and Crayon Resist Tutorial

I am excited to be in the Spotlight over at Layers of Color - this is a new monthly post where you can get up close and personal with the Design Team - one at a time - to find out more pop over to the Layers of Color Blog, where you can meet my family as well!
The tutorial I am showing you today is

Crayon Resist Technique

This technique is quick and easy.  It is perfect for cards, tags, layouts or altered art.

MATERIALS
  • Layers of Color Butterfly Collector art stamp set
  • Layers of Color The Love Chapter art stamp set
  • VersaFine - Black Onyx
  • Distressing Ink - Scattered Straw, Spiced Marmalade, Fired Brick, Walnut Stain
  • White Card Stock
  • White Crayon
  • Tsukineko Daubers
  • White Card Stock
  • Spritzer Bottle
 METHOD:

Randomly stamp the butterfly from Butterfly Collector art stamp set with Versafine Black Onyx

Apply white crayon to any area of the image that should remain white.

Start sponging over your image with the Scattered Straw Distressing Ink - this is not precision.

Continue to sponge color with Spiced Marmalade

and finally sponge with Fired Brick until entire piece of card stock is covered
Take a paper towel and buff image - It will take the ink off your crayon marks and brighten the white.

Spray water into your hand and use your fingers to splash it onto the sponged card stock, dab with tissues immediately and you will see the watermarks appear.

Randomly Stamp the sentiment onto your project - I used Walnut Stain

It is as easy as that - the variety of colours and images are only limited by your imagination.  Here are a couple more projects I have created using this technique

using the Cottage Rose cling art stamp

Dotted Delight art stamp set

Vintage Roses art stamp set

Thank you for stopping by today - it is always lovely to see you!  I would love you to pop over to Layers of Color to say hello - you might learn some things about me that I haven't told anyone!  LOL!

LOC Corrugated Flower

One of my favourite sets by Layers of Color is the Sent With Love art stamp set.

There is a sentiment for so many occasions, I seem to be forever reaching for it

The background is embossed with the Tim Holtz Postcard embossing folder

and the flower is created using hand cut circles made from corrugated card stock, add a little bit of inking around the edges and a button in the centre, finishing with some leaves from the Spellbinders Foliage Die using the Grand Calibur

Tuck in a sentiment from the Sent With Love art stamp set

and it is complete - full of texture and dimension - just how I like it!!

This card is for the following challenges:
Craft Your Passion - A Card for All Occasions
Crafty Cardmakers - Anything Goes
Creative Stamp Friends - Autumn Colors
Karens Doodles - Distress It

SSIC LOC All Things are Possible

It is Sunday and  we all love Sunday, one of the reasons that I love it is that it is time for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge.  I am honoured to be hosting this weeks challenge and have chosen this scripture in the Book of Mark.

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Mar 10:27

The challenge I have set is an easy one - anything goes - it doesn't get much easier than that!

using Vintage Roses art stamp set

along with the Butterfly Collector art stamp set

How many times do we come to a grinding holt when our circumstances seem hopeless, we throw our hands up in the air in despair as we can no longer do this - all seems lost! This is a situation that most of us have experienced at one time or another....in one form or another.
Like many challenges we face, the battle takes place in our minds and are determined in our hearts before we ever see any results in the natural. Decisions we make along with the choices that go along with them are ultimately determined by our ability to turn to God, handing them over to Him and watching Him work - against all the odds!
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Pro 3:5-6
God is not limited by our understanding of Him, there are many accounts of healing and miracles in the Word of God where the circumstances have been impossible but people have placed their trust in God and He has taken the impossible and made it possible. One of the well known accounts is the story of David and Goliath (1Sam 17) - as we know David, the son of Jesse, a mere shepherd, was not the obvious choice to slay Goliath in his family - infact, in the natural, he did not even qualify - BUT he was the one God had chosen, so that He would be glorified.  David's family tried to deter him, even when challenged by King Saul, David's response echoed his trust in God,
But David persisted. "I have been taking care of my father's sheep and goats,"
he said. "When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock,
I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I'll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!
The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!" 1 Sam 17:35-37
David trusted God - his confidence did not waver, even in the face of his enemy, as we can see when he was face to face with Goliath
"Today the LORD will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!
And everyone assembled here will know that the LORD rescues His people, but not with sword and spear. This is the LORD's battle, and He will give you to us!"  Isaiah 46-47
Today, regardless of how big the Goliath's in our lives, how insurmountable that mountain before us, - the reality is that our God is a miracle working God - He is not limited by that we would deem as impossible, infact through Him all things are possible....we merely need to put our trust in Him – the key is WHO we trust in!
I pray that as we face our Goliaths, we will remember the words of Jesus:
With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Mar 10:27
Amen!
